It is better to sell off under-utilized assets than borrow money to revive the economy

Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, over the weekend lent her voice to the call for the sale of some national assets to revive the economy.  Adeosun endorsed the sale while speaking to some business editors in Abuja.  Leadership quotes her as saying it is better to sell off under-utilized assets than borrow money to revive the economy.   I think there are lots of assets being considered. There are some unused assets that are just lying idle and people have come and said, ‘These things you are not using, can we lease it from you?   I think when you are looking for money, some things that government is sitting on, we don’t have money to do them and so it makes sense for me to unlock those things as it will bring money to the economy at these difficult times so that we can move forward.  I don’t think we have got to the stage where we say it’s this or that asset.  The conversation now should be: should we just keep borrowing, or now that things have

Another judge of the Federal High Court in Abuja, Justice John Tsoho has withdrawn from the trial of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu. The first judge in the case, Ahmed Mohammed had withdrawn from the case in 2015 after Kanu said he has no confidence in him. Kanu has accused Tsoho of “judicial rascality” and demanded an investigation on him.He alleged that Tsoho had given different judgments on the same request. Kanu’s lawyer, Ifeanyi Ejiofor said Tsoho ruled in favour of the prosecution without permission from a higher court after he had ruled in favour of the defence earlier. Another counsel to Nnamdi Kanu, Chuks Muoma on Monday said it would be injustice for Tsoho to continue ruling on the case. Tsoho announced he had stepped down, pending the decision of the council. “Even if I am cleared of any bias by the NJC, I will not continue with this case,” said Mr. Tsoho.

WILL BIAFRA EVER BE POSSIBLE

I have watched with keen interest the brouhaha generated by the call for secession by the “Biafran people”. Some days back, I saw a picture of some South Sudanese eating grass as food (I do not have empirical evidence whether it is true or not). One thing immediately struck me. Some years back, when the agitation for the creation of South Sudan was at the peak, we all thought that by now, South Sudan will be in a state of “oyunua” (wonderment), especially because of the abundance of oil. Alas, we all know the true story. No sooner had they achieved independence that they remembered that they were not only South Sudanese but belong to diverse tribes. Today, the newest African country is involved in a state of “wadoghe” and “filaga filogo”(apologies to Hon. Patrick Obahiagbon). Today, all the promises the nascent nation once held are no longer there. There is no more Omar Al-Bashir to blame for their calamity. Every mallam is now with his kettle. Similarly, in

The Ogun state police command has arrested a 54 year old woman, Idowu Olupinla pictured right, for allegedly operating a prostitution cartel with teenagers aged between 14 to 19, right inside her Cherubim and Seraphim Church at Ijoko-Ota area of the state.  Investigations by the police, the suspect harbors the young girls in the church premises and arranges for men to have sex with them for a fee. Parading her before newsmen at the state police command in Abeokuta yesterday September 4th, the state Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Ilyasu, said the young ladies who were found in the church premises have been taken to a hospital for medical examination. One of the victims said many of the girls were from broken homes and sought a place to stay before they were lured into prostitution by the supposed pastor. According to her, they sleep with men for N500 and give the prophetess N200 commission. The teenager said many of them have had multiple abortions so as to cont
