MOURINHO: WE BEAT A VERY GOOD TEAM

Image
MOURINHO: WE BEAT A VERY GOOD TEAM Jose Mourinho felt his Manchester United side beat “a very good team” as the Reds came from behind to defeat Chelsea 2-1 at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon. After Willian had opened the scoring for the visitors, Romelu Lukaku found the net against his old employers with a fine finish before setting up substitute Jesse Lingard to head in what proved to be the winning goal as United reclaimed second place in the Premier League with a fourth successive home win. It’s the second season in a row that the Reds have got the better of Mourinho’s former club Chelsea at the Theatre of Dreams, after the impressive 2-0 victory last term. Here are the key points from the boss in his post-match interview with Sky Sports… WE BEAT A VERY GOOD TEAM “I think we beat a fantastic team. For some reason, they were the champions last season. For some reason, they played the way they did against Barcelona. For some reason, they started the game so well as they sta

While briefing journalists on Thursday, spokesperson for the US Department of State, Ms Heather Nauert, said, “We are still trying to get all the details about that [Boko Haram attack], but we want to mention that we condemn in the strongest possible terms the terror attack on a school earlier this week in northeastern Nigeria. “The choice of targets, including schools, markets and places of worship, reflect the brutality of terrorist organisations. Nigerians are trading close to $4 million worth of bitcoin a week on 13 local exchanges, despite multiple warnings by authorities against investing in cryptocurrencies. Experts have called on the government to rethink its position and adopt smart regulations, “allowing innovation to move forward”. Regulators need to understand how it works before applying bans, analysts say. Warnings Have No Effect on Nigerians Regulators and legislators in Nigeria have taken a hardline stance on cryptocurrencies. The latest manifestation of their attitude came in the form of an investigation into bitcoin trading ordered by the Senate. There have been multiple warnings from other institutions, as well. Last year the Central Bank of Nigeria stated that “virtual currencies” were not legal tender and told banks their dealings with cryptos were at their own risk. The Nigerian Deposit Insurance Corporation has warned Nigerians that they cannot rely on consumer protection when trading cryptocurrencie

Image
The newly evicted Big brother Naija housemates have revealed who they think will win the 45million naira prize. The housemates during an interview with Pulse shared their views on the potential winner of the 45 million naira prize. Here are their opinions: Dee One: “As una don dey vote for who dey… I think it’s Mina, judging by the love they have for their sex life. Bitto: “It’s obvious that a lot of people have their favourites in the house and the person who stays till the last week with the highest number of votes automatically wins. But in all honesty, I will like to see someone who is quite creative win the show. Over the years, we have had people win the show and they have not given back to the society. “I’m an advocate of people giving back to the society. So in all honesty, if you ask me who I want to win Big Brother Naija, I think the only talented housemate left is Ifuennada, and I hope she does win. ANC delivers sack letter to Jacob Zuma and Rochas okorocha

The two party officials arrived at Zuma’s official residence in Pretoria this morning. Reports said they spent about 90 minutes at the residence. The ANC took the decision to recall Zuma after a marathon meeting on Monday that stretched into the early hours of Tuesday. President of the ANC, Cyril Ramaphosa at a stage left the meeting at St.Georges Hotel, outside of Pretoria to discuss with Zuma. When Zuma returned, the meeting still lasted another three hours. The governing party is billed to address a news conference today on its plan to oust Zuma from office. senators walk out over election sequence reordering report

Image
About 10 members of the Senate have staged a walk-out in protest against the adoption of the report by the Senate and House of Representatives Joint Committee on the Amendment to the Electoral Act. The protesters say despite the adoption of the report by the Senate, they would insist on its reversal. They alleged that the amendment was targeted at President Muhammadu Buhari. Chairman of the Senate Committee on the Independent National Electoral Commission, Senator Suleiman Nazif, had presented the report at the plenary on Wednesday. After the presentation, President of the Senate put the adoption of the report to voice vote, saying there was no need for debate on it as it was from a conference committee which had harmonised the versions of the two chambers. After the vote, the ‘ayes’ had it and Saraki ruled on it — a development that generated an uproar in the chamber. Saraki also ruled against three senators who raised points of order to protest against the adoption.

Buhari in a trance – Soyinka

Image
Revered playwright, Prof. Wole Soyinka, has said President Muhammadu Buhari is in a trance. Soyinka, while reacting to a question on the three things he would tell the President if he meets him, stated, ” I will say Mr. President you are in a trance.” He added that the sooner the President got out of the trance, the better for the nation. Asked the form of trance the President was in, the Nobel laureate said, “I don’t know. So many unforced errors. Take for instance the suspended Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme, Usman Yusuf, reinstated by the President. “What is that about? What is going on?” Soyinka had earlier held a press conference in Lagos on the state of the nation titled ‘Nomads and Nation: Valentine card or valedictory rites.’

Bello apologises to Catholic bishops

Image
The Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, has apologised to the Catholic bishops and Christians over his alleged comment that those who opposed President Muhammadu Buhari were corrupt Christian leaders who were unhappy because looters were no longer able to pay tithes to them. Bello said he could never insult men of God as he had “tremendous respect for the Catholic Community.” He said he would not do anything to disparage any religious organisation. The governor was reacting to the criticism that greeted his comment in which he was quoted as carpeting the Catholic bishops who paid a visit to Buhari last week and expressed their misgivings about the President’s perceived nepotism and killings by Fulani herdsmen in parts of the country. The governor said those criticising the President were those sympathetic to looters and that the bishops were angry because tithes were no longer coming from looters. But Bello in statement signed on his behalf by his Director General of Media an

City again looked to sign him in January, but United provided the Chile international with a better offer and his eventually linked up with Jose Mourinho's men on January 22 as Henrikh Mkhitaryan went the other way. Catholic bishops in frank exchange • You’re fast losing goodwill, bishops tell Buhari

Image
The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria on Thursday told President Muhammadu Buhari that the enormous goodwill with which he assumed office in 2015 was being fast depleted by some glaring failures of his government. The bishops said this when they paid a courtesy visit to Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. Their address at the visit, copies of which were made available to journalists, was jointly signed by the CBCN President and Archbishop of Jos, Most Rev. Ignatius Kaigama; and the Secretary who is also the Bishop of Gboko, Most Rev. William Avenya. The address read in part, “There is no doubt that when you came into office, you had an enormous amount of the goodwill of Nigerians, since many saw you as a person of integrity who would be able to bring sanity into a system that was nearly crippled by endemic corruption. “Nearly three years later, however, one has the feeling that this goodwill is being fast depleted by some glaring failures of government which
