MOURINHO EXPLAINS CHANGES TO HIS teams

Image
Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho explained his five changes to the side that started in the 2-0 Emirates FA Cup quarter-final win against Brighton at Old Trafford before the international break. The selection for the Swansea City clash means returns to the line-up for Alexis Sanchez and Paul Pogba who were both unused subs in the cup tie. David De Gea, who was rested against Brighton, is back in goal and Sergio Romero's injury, sustained with Argentina, means Joel Pereira is on the bench. Victor Lindelof makes his first start since the beginning of the month at Crystal Palace and replaces Eric Bailly as Chris Smalling’s central defensive sidekick. Ashley Young had been a slight doubt for the game against the South Wales side after picking up a knock playing for England in midweek against Italy. But the left-back has recovered and takes his place in defence as he had done for the second half against Brighton when he replaced Luke Shaw at the interval. "

Naomi Campbell’s meeting with Buhari

Image
President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday met with British supermodel, Naomi Campbell, as he toured the Eko Atlantic City on Friday. The supermodel was in Lagos for the Arise Fashion Week 2018, and many Nigerians were surprised to see her with the President during his tour of the new city under construction. The British model had earlier tweeted that she was in Nigeria on the request of the Nigerian government but deleted the post shortly after. She tweeted, “Was a pleasure to be invited by his Excellency, the President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, to the private launch of Eko Atlantic @NGRPresident @MBuhari.” After deleting the post, she replaced it with, “Was a pleasure to meet His Excellency the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, to the launch of Eko Atlantic. Pope Francis says Hell does not exist

Image
There is no hell where the souls of sinners suffer in eternity”, Pope Francis was quoted as saying in a Thursday interview with Italian daily La Repubblica. Pope reportedly said: “After death, the souls of people who repent are pardoned by God and join in his contemplation, but those who do not repent, and therefore cannot be pardoned, disappear. “Hell does not exist – what exists is the disappearance of sinful souls. The Pope was interviewed by 93-year-old veteran Italian journalist and atheist, Eugenio Scalfari, who regularly muses about faith and religion, and enjoys access to the leader of the Catholic Church. In the past, the veracity of quotes Scalfari attributed to the Pope has been called to question, especially after he admitted to never using a tape recorder during interviews. However, the Vatican has never complained about Scalfari’s work, and Francis has continued giving interviews to him. (dpa/NAN)

Osinbajo, Tinubu We shall keep talking about corruption under Jonathan –

Image
The Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, and the national leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, have said they will continue to talk about the corruption perpetrated under the President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration. They stated this  on Thursday  at the 10th Bola Tinubu Colloquium in Lagos, where the 66th birthday of the former governor of Lagos State was commemorated. Osinbajo, who described corruption as an existential problem for Nigeria, said, “The corruption of the previous five years destroyed the economy.” “They say don’t talk about it. What should we talk about? If we are not talking about it, then what is the lesson to Nigerians?” Tinubu said. He said that the former ruling Peoples Democratic Party wasted the nation’s resources when production was at maximum. Thanking Nigerians for their patience with the present administration, Tinubu said; “I am happy that President Buhari has saved the ship from wreckage.’’

Holy Week and the Importance to Christians and Catholic

Image
By  Rev. Emily C Holy Week is, as suggested, the holiest week of the Christian year. It’s also the busiest. The week starts on Palm Sunday with the commemoration of Christ’s triumphal entry into Jerusalem. It continues on Maundy Thursday with a retelling of the story of the Last Supper, and Jesus’ betrayal by a disciple. On Good Friday the church gathers to remember Jesus’ death on the cross. And on Easter we proclaim the Resurrection, and celebrate the assurance that not even death could separate us from God’s grace. It’s a long week with added church services that leave even those who gain renewed energy from worship tired at times. Clergy often take one of their vacation weeks the following week in order to recover. And we pastors, regardless if we admit it or not, know that when we announce the additional Holy Week services some people are groaning a little inside. I get it. We’re all busy. Sunday morning feels hard enough for many good Christians. Thursday night

22-year-old African record broken by Okagbare

Image
Blessing Okagbare on Saturday started her outdoor season with an impressive 22.04secs in her 200m race at the Wes Kittley Invitational Track and Field Meet at the Abilene Christian University, which erased the 22-year-old previous African record of 22.07secs set by Mary Onyali at a Meet in Switzerland in 1996. Cierra White followed in second place in 23.26secs while Natasha McDonald settled for third in 24.23secs. Apart from becoming the new African record, Okagbare’s winning time also becomes the new national record in the women’s 200m. Okagbare’s previous personal best in the event was 22.23secs was set at the 2014 Eugene Diamond League. With her latest exploit, it means that Okagbare now holds the Nigerian records in the women’s 100m (10.79secs) and 200m. Okagbare did not compete in the indoor season, which started in January. The Wes Kittley Invitational was her first competition of the season. The 26-year-old is one of the 37 athletes listed

Palm Sunday and it significant to to Christians

Image
Palm Sunday is the final Sunday of Lent, the beginning of Holy Week, and commemorates the triumphant arrival of Christ in Jerusalem, days before he was crucified. Palm Sunday is known as such because the faithful will often receive palm fronds which they use to participate in the reenactment of Christ's arrival in Jerusalem. In the Gospels, Jesus entered Jerusalem riding a young donkey, and to the lavish praise of the townspeople who threw clothes, or possibly palms or small branches, in front of him as a sign of homage. This was a customary practice for people of great respect. Palm branches are widely recognized symbol of peace and victory, hence their preferred use on Palm Sunday. The use of a donkey instead of a horse is highly symbolic, it represents the humble arrival of someone in peace, as opposed to arriving on a steed in war. A week later, Christ would rise from the dead on the first Easter. During Palm Sunday Mass, palms are distributed to parishione

Bill Gate’s Opinion On Buhari’s Economic Policy Not Correct- Gov. El-Rufai

Image
Governor Nasir El-Rufai has said the assessment of Mr. Bill Gate, the founder of Microsoft Corporation, about President Muhammadu Buhari’s Economic Policy is not correct. Mr. Gates had faulted President Buhari’s Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (ERGP), stating the plan does not have the ability to address the unique needs of Nigerians at present. He added that the execution priorities of the plan do not fully reflect people’s needs, instead, it prioritizes physical capital over human capital. But the Kaduna state governor in an interview with the journalist at the statehouse after the session said it is not correct to say that the economic plan does not give primacy to human capital. “It is not correct to say that the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan does not give primacy to human capital, it is not correct. “The plan has enough provision for human capital, it is a Federal Government’s plan. What is needed is for states to have similar plans as well as adequate

Peter obi Senator’s allowance is tip of iceberg compared to gov

Image
Former governor of Anambra State, Mr Peter Obi, yesterday, disclosed that what a governor earned as take home allowance was far more than what a senator gets. This came on a day members of the House of Representatives refused to disclose their salaries and running cost. Obi, who spoke as a panellist at the dialogue organised by Ripples Centre for Data and Investigative Journalism in Lagos, told the audience that if he revealed how much a Nigerian governor earns, the outrage would be hotter than what trailed the N13.5 million monthly pay of senators. He said: “None of you knows what a governor earns, quote me anywhere if you know you won’t be here. It is something you can’t imagine. You just know the salary of senators, and you are shouting, but what if you know that of the governors?” He said what a public office holders earned in America was modest, adding: “America’s GDP is way above Nigeria’s but an American senator earns $174,000 (about N50 million) a year and you c

Understanding The Holy Spirit

Image
Most Christians don't really understand the nature of the Holy Spirit. The reason for this is that either churches never talk about the Holy Spirit, or they teach incorrect things about the Holy Spirit. Some teach that the Holy Spirit is a feeling, when actually he is more of a teacher that makes us more wise. This article will help you understand what the Bible says about the Holy Spirit and what he does in the life of a Christian. Understand that the Holy Spirit is given to us to teach us. John 14:26 says, "The Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you." The Holy Spirit's job is to bring to our minds what Jesus said, and also to lead us into all truth about the Bible. He is given to us to increase our wisdom. He is not given to us to make us feel things or for us to listen to our heart, nor to stop our thinking. He is given to us to increase our brain

Jonathan replies Osinbajo - you lied

Image
A former President, Goodluck Jonathan, on Tuesday said Vice President Yemi Osinbajo lied over claims that the Jonathan administration embezzled some funds a few weeks to the 2015 general elections. Mr. Jonathan’s reaction was contained in a statement by his former spokesperson, Reno Omokri. The former president said Mr osinbajo lied. Mr. Osinbajo had on Monday said N100 billion and a separate $289 million were embezzled by officials of the Goodluck Jonathan administration, a few weeks to the 2015 elections. The vice president, who made this revelation while speaking at the 7th Quarterly Business Forum (QBF) held at the State House, Abuja, said the economic woes being faced by Nigerians today were caused by the corruption of the former administration. He also alleged that the strategic alliance contracts signed by Mr. Jonathan’s government with the NNPC and NDPC were used to embezzle money by the promoters. But on Tuesday, Mr. Omokri challenged Mr. Osinbajo to

Inspector-General of Police withdraws policemen attached to VIPs, others

Citing the security challenges facing the nation, the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, on Monday ordered the withdrawal of all police offices attached to Very Important Persons, including political and public office holders nationwide. The police boss, who announced this in Abuja during a conference with senior officers, stated that the directive also affected private businessmen, multi-national companies and other corporate organizations who are enjoying special police protection. To this end, Idris explained that a task force had been constituted at the Force headquarters under the command of ACP Mohammed Dankwara to ensure compliance to the directive while state commissioners of police are to replicate same at their commands. The decision to recall over 200,000 policemen attached to public officers and unauthorized persons is coming after public outcry over the deployment of a large percentage of police personnel to private individuals at the expense of o

The political tension in the Imo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress on Sunday heightened as the national organising secretary of the party, Osita Izunaso; senators Ifeanyi Araraume and Benjamin Uwajiumogu stormed out midway into the meeting. The meeting, which held at Concorde Hotel in Owerri, behind closed door and amidst tumultuous atmosphere from party faithful who had accompanied their leaders, lasted for about two hours and 30 minutes. The meeting, which was presided over by the state chairman, Hillary Eke, was allegedly boycotted by Governor Rochas Okorocha who reportedly insisted that the meeting be held at the Imo Government House. According to the state publicity secretary of the party, Nwabueze Oguchienti, who addressed newsmen, the stakeholders addressed issues of internal democracy, the proposed local government election in June, and the party primary elections later in the year “The meeting reached resolutions on internal democracy, disc
