The N-power scheme of the federal government became a political rallying point on Saturday as beneficiaries, split into pro- governor Ayo Fayose and pro-President Muhammadu Buhari camps, clashed. The Lagos State police command have arrested no fewer than 100 persons allegedly involved in a violent clash between two unknown groups at the Scavengers Land near New Garage, Ojota.  The state Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations), Mohammed Ali, made the disclosure on Friday saying the arrested persons have been transferred to the Taskforce Office, Oshodi, Lagos. Ali said that the leaders of the two groups were meeting with state Commissioner of Police, Imohimi Edgal, with a view to resolving their conflict amicably. “Nobody was killed in the clash. The situation has been brought under control. Our men will be here until total peace is restored,” Ali said. Shehu Sani, the Nigerian senator who revealed that he and his colleagues receive N13.5 million as running cost monthly, has explained why he exposed his colleagues. Mr. Sani in an interview with BBC said the payment is a ‘moral issue.’ “I decided to burst it open. It was a moral issue,” he said. He said that the National Assembly is being run with little accountability about how the money is spent. He wants the illegal payment to be scrapped so that the legislative arm of government will be attractive only to people who can contribute ideas. “The National Assembly is one of the most non-transparent organs of government. It pricked my conscience and I decided to burst the bubble and open the National Assembly to public scrutiny. “If the expenses payment system was ended then parliament would only be attractive to people who contribute ideas,” he told BBC. There has been crisis in the family of Sir Louis Odumegwu Ojukwu, the millionaire father of the late Ikemba Nnewi, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu over the sharing of their late father’s property. Ikemefuna Ojukwu and his brother, Mr. Chukwuma Ojukwu, two children of the late Ikemba Nnewi, had instituted the suit in 2014, against their uncles, Dr Joseph Ojukwu, Dr Ike Ojukwu and Mr. Lotanna Ojukwu and their mother, Ambassador.
